Boxing | Conlan and Frampton to co-headline London event

Belfast boxers Carl Frampton and Michael Conlan will co-headline

a behind-closed-doors card in London on August 15th.

Former two-weight world champion Frampton will face

Armenia's Vahram Vardanyan in BT's studios in London, ahead of an expected

world title fight against Jamal Herring later this year.

Frampton, 33, and super-featherweight world champion Herring

have publicly voiced their desire to meet in the ring, with Frampton eager to

beat Katie Taylor to the record of becoming the first Irish fighter to become a

three-weight world champion.

‘The Jackal’ (27-2), who has not fought since beating Tyler

McCreary via unanimous decision last November, will take on Vardanyan (22-1-1)

in a 10-round contest.

"We had maybe six other guys who said no, just didn't

want the fight," said Frampton.

"He is a dangerous guy because he's a puncher, so I

need to be at my best.

"Obviously the objective is to beat him convincingly and get the Jamel Herring fight off the back of it, but I must be focused on him completely."

Conlan (13-0), who is undefeated since turning professional following

the Rio 2016 scandal, will face will face former world title challenger Sofiane

Takoucht (35-4-1).

French featherweight Takoucht lost to Josh Warrington, who

defeated Frampton the last time he and Conlan appeared on the same card, in

October 2019.

The experienced Takoucht represents another leap in standard

of opponents for Conlan, who is on course for his maiden world title fight.

"The shape I came into training camp in was

fantastic," Conlan said.

"I have never come in fitter or in better condition. I

am excited. Lockdown did me a lot of good.

"If can't take my eyes away from Sofiane Takoucht because if I don't beat this guy then the next fight doesn't happen. That's just the way boxing is.”
