Golf | Shane Lowry first Irish golfer to tee off at Galgorm

Galgorm Castle Golf Course hosts its first Dubai Duty Free Irish Open this week.

The course is just over 30 miles from Shane Lowry's stunning success in the Open Championship in July of 2019 in Royal Portrush, and he will lead the Irish charge tomorrow.

The Irish Open was originally due to take place at Mount Juliet in May, but its postponement was announced in March as the Covid-19 crisis took effect.

Lowry begins as tournament favourite and comes off the back of a 15-over-par finish at Winged Foot, on a difficult course for the US Open.

Lowry tees off at 9.25 with South Africa's George Coetzee and Australia's Lucas Herbert.

It will be a strong Irish field with the likes of Padraig Harrington, Paul Dunne, Damian McGrane and James Sugrue also competing.
