Golf | Tiger Woods equals Sam Snead's record

Tiger Woods has won the Zozo Championship to equal Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA Tour wins, becoming the first golfer to win a PGA Tour event in Japan in the process.

Woods, who held a three-shot lead with seven holes to play in the final round before play in Japan was halted due to darkness last night, saw off the challenge of Hideki Matsuyama to finish the tournament on -19.

The 43-year-old American scored 67 in the final round, finishing three shots of clear Japan's Matsuyama (-16), who also scored 67 at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club..

Rory McIlroy finished joint-third in the table on -13 after scoring 67 in the final round.

Shane Lowry had to settle for a tied finish in 13th, ending his tournament in Japan on -8 after scoring 65 on the last day.

It has taken Woods 23 years to win his 82 PGA titles, whereas it took his compatriot Snead 29.

Tiger has accomplished the feat at the age of 43, nine years younger than Snead was when he won his 82nd title in 1965.

Snead and Woods are the only two players to win more than 75 PGA Tour events, with Jack Nicklaus third on the all-time list on 73 victories.
