Boxing | Michael Conlan handed world title shot

Michael Conlan will fight Leigh Wood for the WBA featherweight title at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.

The Belfast boxer's challenge for the belt will take place in reigning champion Wood's hometown on March 12th.

33-year-old Wood (25-2, 15 KOs) will take on mandatory challenger Conlan in his first title defence since defeating Can Xu to win the belt last year.

Conlan (16 - 0, 8 KOs) defeated fellow Irishman TJ Doheny to claim the WBA Interim World title last July.

The 30-year-old former Olympic medallist has vowed to "bring Belfast to Nottingham" for the fight.

The fight will be shown live on DAZN.
