Football | Duff and Watts honoured at 2024 PFAI Awards

Damien Duff has won the Manager of the Year award at the 2024 PFAI Awards in Dublin.

The former Republic of Ireland international, who guided Shelbourne to their first league title in 18 years, beat Kevin Doherty and John Caulfield to the award.

Duff dedicated the award to his wife Elaine.

"This belongs to her," he said.

"Why? I've probably spent more time giving love and affection and care to Paddy (Barrett), Sean (Boyd) and Mark (Coyle) than I do my own wife and kids. I'm addicted to hard work, I'm addicted to Shelbourne Football Club and I'm addicted to the League of Ireland. At times, in all seriousness, I put my family second."

Celtic and Ireland defender Liam Scales received the PFA Ireland Men’s Irish Overseas Player of the Year 2024 for his strong performances for club and country. Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan won the FA Ireland International Women’s Player of the Year 2024 gong.

Dylan Watts was named the Premier Division's Player of the Year after another impressive campaign for Shamrock Rovers, who surrendered their title to Shelbourne in a thrilling title race. The Hoops playmaker won the award ahead of Derry City winger Michael Duffy and Waterford United's prolific striker Padraig Amond.

Mason Melia won the Young Player of the Year award. The 17-year-old St. Patrick's Athletic prodigy, linked to several Premier League clubs, beat Shamrock Rovers forward Johnny Kenny and Cork City's Cathal O'Sullivan to the accolade.

Galway United star Julie-Ann Russell was crowned the Women's Player of the Year, while Peamount United's Ellen Dolan won the Women's Young Player of the Year award.

Title-winning Athlone Town manager Ciaran Kilduff received the Women's Manager of the Year award ahead of his move to Dundalk FC next season.

Charlie Lyons was named Men's First Division Player of the Season after his excellent campaign at the heart of Cork City's defence, with the Leesiders winning promotion back to the top tier.

Cork manager Tim Clancy picked up the First Division Manager of the Season award.
