Everton's James McCarthy subject of bid from Crystal Palace

Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy, has been the subject of significant Newcastle United-related speculation in recent days.

But as Friday evening rolled to a close, Sky Sports News reported that Crystal Palace had made an £8m bid for the Everton player.

Not an insignificant amount for a player with only one year left on his contract and limited playing time in recent months.

With the likes of Ayoze Perez leaving Newcastle and Sean Longstaff unlikely to be too far on his coat-tails, flirting with a possible move to Manchester United; the Steve Bruce revolution may not have been the worst of options for McCarthy.

But Crystal Palace appear to have moved while Newcastle look to regroup and take shape under new manager Steve Bruce.

Palace may be the more stable option. At this moment they seem the only option. A future at Goodison Park looks unlikely. McCarthy must harbour hopes of reintegrating himself into the Irish set-up to under Mick McCarthy, and a move to a solid, progressive team can only help.
