Finn Harps sign Joshua Smith from SC Hessen Dreieich

Finn Harps made sure the considerable journey to Waterford last night was a worthwhile one, leaving the RSC with a 1-0 victory and giving themselves hope of survival yet.

With that, Ollie Horgan has signed central defender Joshua Smith from SC Hessen Dreieich, adding to his defensive options.

Smith has spent some time Stateside, with stints at New England Revolution and  San Jose Earthquakes.

Horgan has highlighted the physicality of the 27-year-old as a tangible asset, but advised the player has to ensure a potential starting place in the team for himself.

"We have been looking to get a few more players in and Joshua has signed with us for the remainder of the season. He has height and strength and in this Premier Division we will need that in the squad.

"There’s going to be injuries and suspensions so we’re happy that Joshua has agreed terms. It’s up to him now to stake a claim for a regular place in the team.”

Finn Harps have two consecutive home games in the league to build on the momentum of their win in Waterford, with games in Ballybofey against Derry City and Bohemians in the coming weeks.

Smith will be hoping to play his part in some capacity.
