Football | Aaron Connolly ruled out of Denmark clash

Aaron Connolly will miss the Republic of Ireland's double-header against New Zealand and Denmark.

The Brighton forward has been ruled out after picking up a groin injury in the Seagulls' 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, and has officially been withdrawn from the Irish squad.

“Our team doctor Alan Byrne has spoken to the Brighton medical team and had a look at the scans,” Mick McCarthy told the FAI website.

“The scans have confirmed the groin injury and Aaron won’t be ready in time for New Zealand and Denmark.”

The FAI have also revealed that McCarthy won't call up a replacement for the 19-year-old.

Connolly has won two caps for the Boys in Green to date, appearing in Ireland's most recent Euro 2020 qualifiers against Georgia and Switzerland.

Ireland face New Zealand in an international friendly on Thursday before hosting Denmark in a crucial Euro 2020 qualifying match next week.
