Bohemian FC have announced the signing of Glen McAuley.

McAuley joins the Gypsies on a free transfer after a short spell at St. Patrick's Athletic in the second half of the 2019 season.

The 19-year-old, who can play up front or in midfield, previously spent five years at Liverpool before being released by the Reds alongside compatriots Conor Masterson and Corey Whelan last summer.

He was prolific for Liverpool at U18 level, netting 16 goals in 26 appearances for Steven Gerrard's U18s in the 2016/17 season.

Former St. Joseph's youth McAuley has also represented the Republic of Ireland at every age group up until U19 level.

The Dubliner made eight appearances for St. Pat's last season, scoring once, before departing Richmond Park at the end of the campaign.

McAuley will no doubt be inspired by other Irish players like Sean Maguire, Graham Burke and Jack Byrne, who have used their return to Ireland to reinvent and relaunch their careers.

The teenager becomes Bohs' fifth signing of the season after the Dublin club confirmed the acquisitions of goalkeeper Stephen McGuinness, defender Anto Breslin and midfielders JJ Lunney and Kris Twardek last week.

Keith Long's men will be looking to build on last season's third-placed finish, and McAuley's goals could help the Gypsies to kick on and challenge the top two in 2020.
