Football | Carlo Ancelotti leaves Everton to return to Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti has left Everton to return to Real Madrid as manager.
The 61-year-old, who became Everton's manager in December 2019, has returned to Los Blancos on a deal which runs until the end of the 2023/24 season.
Ancelotti previously coached Madrid between 2013-2015, and replaces the outgoing Zinedine Zidane at the club.
"Everton can confirm that Carlo Ancelotti has left his position as manager to take up the role of Head Coach at Real Madrid," a club statement read.
"Everton would like to place on record its thanks to Carlo for his service to the Club over the past 18 months.
"The Club will begin the process of appointing a new manager immediately and will provide updates in due course."
Ancelotti confirmed the news on Twitter, thanking everyone at the Toffees for their support and explaining his decision to return to the Spanish giants.
"I would like to thank Everton FC, my players and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to manage this fantastic and historical club," he wrote.
"I decided to leave as I have a new challenge with a team that was always in my heart, Real Madrid."
