Edinson Cavani has scored his first Manchester United goal to seal a crucial 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Bruno Fernandes was the difference for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, scoring twice and passing up the opportunity for a hat-trick by laying the ball on a plate for United’s new Uruguayan forward.
The pressure was on Solskjaer and his team to deliver a performance after chastening defeats against Arsenal and Istanbul.
Carlo Ancelotti's Everton took the lead through Bernard's early goal in the 19th minute.
Jordan Pickford launched the ball forward to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who knocked it down to the onrushing Bernard, who scuffed his shot into the bottom left-hand corner past David de Gea.
The Toffees' lead only lasted six minutes, with Fernandes equalising after great link-up play with Juan Mata.
Luke Shaw picked out Fernandes in the middle of the box with an excellent cross, and the Portugal international powered his excellent header past Pickford.
Seven minutes later, Fernandes had the ball in the back of the net in what was a quickfire turnaround by the visitors.
Fernandes dinked a cross into the box from the left, and despite Rashford’s attempt to get his head to it, it sailed past him and Pickford into the back of the net to complete United's comeback.
The Portuguese star had the opportunity to wrap up his hat-trick in injury time, and kept his composure at the end to expertly take advantage of a two-man advantage on the break.
He unselfishly decided to play in Cavani rather than shoot, and the former PSG forward duly slotted it past Pickford, and that was enough to give Manchester United the three points that were on offer.
This crucial win for United as we head into the international break will relieve some of the pressure that has been on Solskjaer's back after a difficult week for the Red Devils.
