Football | Chelsea agree Timo Werner deal with RB Leipzig

Chelsea have agreed a deal in principle to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Werner has a release clause of €55 million (£49.4m), which expires on Nune 15th, and Chelsea have offered the Germany international a £200,000-a-week contract.

The coveted striker has been heavily linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United, but appears Chelsea have won the race for his signature.

Werner has been in devastating form for Leipzig, netting 25 Bundesliga goals in 29 appearances so far this season.

The 24-year-old has also netted four goals in the Champions League, including a penalty in Leipzig's last-16 aggregate victory over Spurs, as well as two goals in the DFB-Pokal.

Werner has also registered 12 assists in all competitions and has recorded more touches in the oppositions' box than any other player in the German top flight.

The lethal finisher has notched 11 goals in 24 senior appearances for Germany, and boasts an overall record of 92 goals in 154 appearances for Leipzig, having joined the club in 2016 after his early breakthrough at Stuttgart.

Werner becomes Chelsea's second major signing of the summer after the capture of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax for £33 million.

Frank Lampard's side are currently fourth in the Premier League as they seek a return to the Champions League.
