Swansea City have signed Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane on loan until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international, who joined Villa from Barnsley in 2017, moves to the Championship in search of regular first-team football.

"He's been to see me a few times and intimated to me that he wants to go out and play games, which is one of the reasons why I love Conor so much," Aston Villa manager Dean Smith explained.

Hourihane, 29, could make his Swansea debut in Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round home tie against Nottingham Forest at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea are second in the Championship table, four points behind leaders Norwich.

“I am excited by the challenge, and I want to come down here and achieve," Hourihane told the Swansea website.

The Cork native has scored 32 goals in 132 appearances for Villa.
