Football | Emakhu bags winner on European debut for Shamrock Rovers

Aidomo Emakhu has scored the winner in Shamrock Rovers' 1-0 home win over Teuta Durres in the Hoops' Europa Conference League qualifier at Tallaght Stadium.

Emakhu, 17, became the youngest Rovers player to score in Europe by sweeping a 90th-minute winner into the net from six yards.

The teenage substitute was in the right place to convert Danny Mandroiu's low cross to give Stephen Bradley's men a one-goal advantage ahead of next week's return leg of the third round qualifier in Albania.

Rovers dominated proceedings in Dublin against a Teuta side who were content to surrender possession and park the bus.

Hoops defenders Liam Scales and Lee Grace threatened from Dylan Watts' set pieces, but neither could direct their respective attempts on target as the visitors frustrated the SSE Airtricity League champions in the first half.

Midway through the half, Teuta goalkeeper Stivi Frasheri made a comfortable save from Mandroiu's shot after a good cut-back from Rory Gaffney.

Grace then made an important block after a rare Teuta counter at the other end, before Mandroiu tested Frasheri with another effort from distance late in the half.

The Albanian visitors' goalkeeper then made a good save early in the second half to deny Grace's downward header as Rovers continued to dominate.

Richie Towell, Gary O’Neill and Gaffney all had efforts off target as the Dublin club desperately searched for a breakthrough, which finally came in fairytale fashion at the death.
