Football | Five Ireland players called up for Finland match

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has called up five players for Wednesday's UEFA Nations League match against Finland.

Adam Idah returns to the squad after missing the Slovakia match after being ruled a close contact to a member of the backroom team who tested positive for COVID-19.

U21 duo Dara O'Shea (West Brom) and Jason Knight (Derby) have also been promoted from the underage ranks, with QPR midfielder Ryan Manning and Portsmouth attacker Ronan Curtis also coming into the squad.

The team will fly to Finland on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's match in Helsinki.

It has been a turbulent week for the squad, with Idah and Aaron Connolly ruled out of the Slovakia play-off defeat at the last minute, before a further five players were stood down ahead of yesterday's scoreless draw with Wales in Dublin after a squad member tested positive for the virus.

The Boys in Green head into the Finland match in search of their maiden Nations League win, and the first victory of the Kenny era.
