Football | James Collins to make competitive Ireland debut

James Collins will lead Ireland's line this afternoon, when Ireland take on Georgia in Tbilisi at 14:00.

Mick McCarthy has selected the centre forward to replace David McGoldrick, and will be joined in attack by James McClean on the left, and Callum Robinson on the right. Aaron Connolly, who has exploded into the public consciousness this last week, will be on the bench.

Glenn Whelan will anchor the midfield, behind Conor Hourihane and Jeff Hendrick, while Matt Doherty replaces the suspended Enda Stevens at left-back. Seamus Coleman captains the team from the opposite flank.

Shane Duffy has returned from injury, while John Egan starts, in what could well be a long term replacement for Richard Keogh.

Darren Randolph starts in goal as expected.

If Ireland are hoping to get 4 points from this weeks games, three of those will be most likely to attain from the game in Georgia. However, as Denmark found out in early September, they will be difficult to penetrate.
