Football | Lineker to leave Match of the Day role

The BBC has confirmed that Gary Lineker will leave his role as host of Match of the Day at the end of the season.

Lineker, 63, has helmed the iconic football highlights show since 1999.

The former England international, who earned over £1.3 million last year, will still present the 2026 FIFA World Cup before leaving the BBC permanently.

Lineker will have presented the show for 26 years when he steps down following the conclusion of the Premier League season.

The BBC is expected to announce the news officially on Tuesday.
