Football | Liverpool complete Thiago Alcantara signing from Bayern Munich

In what has been a relatively fervent week in transfer activity in the Premier League, Liverpool have pulled off a stand-out signing, with the signature of Spanish international Thiago Alcantara.

The 29-year-old has had a significantly successful time in Germany, reflected in last seasons treble of the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League, in a campaign in which the midfielder featured 40 times in midfield for Bayern.

Liverpool, whose recent transfer activity has been deemed relatively dormant, in contrast to some of their rivals, met Bayern's asking price for Thiago at €30M.

The player, whose father, Mazinho, was a Brazilian international and a member of the 1994 World Cup winning side, has signed a four-year contract at Anfield.

Speaking to the clubs official website, the player spoke of a moment that was a long time in the making.

“When the years are passing, you are trying to win as much as you can – and when you win, you want to win more. I think this club describes what I am as well; I want to achieve all of the goals, win as many trophies as possible.

“It also {has} this kind of family {feeling} that I need because we have a very close relationship with the club and I think I will feel this, I will have this feeling, with this club as well.”

Thiago went on to express his passion, saying that Liverpool fans: " are not more excited than I am, for sure not! It is not about saying words, it is about doing the things. I will give my heart on the field to my teammates, the club and also to the fans.”
