Football | Rashford strikes late to give Manchester United victory over PSG

Marcus Rashford has once again caused PSG pain as his 87th-minute goal sealed a 2-1 win for Manchester United against Paris Saint-Germain in France in this opening round of the 2020/21 Champions League group stages.

The United striker scored a last minute winner from the penalty spot to secure a famous win for the Red Devils in the round of 16 in March 2019, and now just 19 months later, has done it again against last season's Champions League runners-up.

Rashford's late strike from 20 yards sees PSG lose at home in the group stages for the first time sincr CSKA Moscow beat the French side 3-1 in December 2004.

The visitors took the lead in the first half from a Bruno Fernandes penalty, who had to take it a second time as it was judged that Keylor Navas had come off his line way too soon. Fernandes made no mistake with the second attempt and sent Navas the wrong way to give United a deserved lead.

PSG did equalise in the second half from an Anthony Martial own goal. The French forward got his header all wrong from a PSG corner; his attempted clearance flying into the top corner.

However, it was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s who controlled the game and PSG were saved on numerous occasions thanks to some smart saves from Navas, and poor decision making from the Rashford.

The English striker made up for his poor decision making as his 87th-minute strike - despite Navas' best attempts o get a hand to it - nestled its way into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

That goal was enough to see United through the opening match in group stage, on a night that also saw RB Leipzig win 2-0 at home to Istanbul Basakehir in what looks a very tough group.

The next round of Group H fixtures will see United welcome RB Leipzig to Old Trafford on Wednesday, October 28th, while PSG will travel to Istanbul.
