Football | Scott Hogan makes permanent switch to Birmingham

Scott Hogan has signed a four-year deal with Birmingham City, making permanent his loan move last season from Aston Villa.

The Republic of Ireland international scored on seven occasions in his 18 appearances for Birmingham, the player having also had loan spells from Villa at Stoke City and Sheffield United.

Birmingham manager Aitor Karanka was known to be looking for reinforcements up front, with Lukas Jutkiewicz the only real recognised striker for Birminham. And while post-lockdown Hogan struggled to score, he did find the net on seven occasions in his first eight games for the club in the Championship.

Hogan began his professional career with Rochdale and had stints with Halifax, Hyde, another stay at Rochdale before a move to Brentford where he scored 21 goals in 36 appearances before moving to Villa in a £9M switch.

Hogan has one goal in eight appearances for Ireland, but has yet to feature under Stephen Kenny.
