Football | Shamrock Rovers to host AC Milan in Europa League qualifiers

Shamrock Rovers will host AC Milan at Tallaght Stadium behind closed doors in the second round of Europa League qualifiers.

The Hoops, who beat Ilves in a thrilling penalty shootout in the first round of qualifiers, will welcome the Italian giants to Dublin on September 17th.

Stephen Bradley's side are enjoying a superb season and beat Cork City 2-1 in the Extra.ie FAI Cup on Monday night.

Rovers, who last faced Serie A opposition when they took on Juventus in 2010, have yet to lose an SSE Airtricity League game this season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will likely be involved for Milan - who finished sixth in the Serie A last season - in Dublin after penning a new one-year deal with the club.

The Italian club's last visit to Ireland saw them held to a scoreless draw by Athlone Town in 1975.

Unfortunately, the Hoops' 8,000 capacity stadium will be practically empty due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Dundalk, who were also in the draw having suffered elimination from the Champions League qualifiers, have been drawn away to Andorran outfit Inter Club in the second round, with a venue yet to be confirmed for the September 17th clash.

Jose Mourinho's Spurs have been paired with Lokomotiv Plovdiv of Bulgaria, while Rangers have been handed a visit to Gibraltar to face Lincoln Red Imps.
