Football | Shane Duffy scores again for Celtic

Shane Duffy scored his second goal in as many games as Celtic beat St Mirren 2-1 at Simple Digital Arena.

The Republic of Ireland defender headed Ryan Christie's free kick into the back of the net to draw the Bhoys level in the 21st minute after Lee Erwin had given the hosts a shock early lead.

It was Duffy's second goal in less than a week, with the Brighton loanee finding the back of the net with another header on his debut in Celtic’s 5-0 win over Ross County last week.

James Forrest then fired Celtic into the lead in the 36th minute, with Odsonne Edouard then seeing his 75th-minute penalty saved by St Mirren goalkeeper Zdenek Zlamal.

Neil Lennon's visitors held on to move three points behind bitter rivals Rangers with a game in hand in the Scottish Premiership, while St Mirren remain seventh in the table.

St Mirren made the perfect start, taking the lead in just the third minute.

Erwin bundled the ball over the line from point-blank range at the back post after Joe Shaughnessy flicked on former Dundalk midfielder Jamie McGrath's corner.

Celtic responded well, with Edouard flashing a header wide as the Scottish champions went in search of an equalizer.

Duffy once again demonstrated his aerial prowess, powering a good header past Zlamal from Christie's free-kick from the right flank.

Zlamal denied Callum McGregor and Edouard with good saves, before Celtic grabbed their second goal 15 minutes after Duffy's header.

Forrest met Christie's wonderful cross with an unstoppable header to give the away side the lead and Celtic never looked back.

St Mirren had a penalty claim turned down when the ball appeared to strike Duffy on the arm, with the referee electing not to award the spot kick.

Edouard missed the chance to extend their lead from the penalty spot after McGrath fouled Christie in the box, but the Bhoys saw out the game comfortably.
