Football | Sinclair becomes highest-scoring international player of all time
Christine Sinclair has become the highest-scoring international footballer of all time on 185 goals.
The Canada captain scored twice in the opening 23 minutes of her country's 9-0 demolition of St. Kitts and Nevis at the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship.
Striker Sinclair has now scored 185 goals - and provided a further 56 assists - in 290 internationals for her country.
The 36-year-old's double takes her above previous record holder Abby Wambach from America, who retired from international duty on 184 goals.
Mia Hamm is third on the women's all-time list with 158 goals.
Ali Daei is the highest scoring male player of all time, notching 109 goals for Iran, 10 ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still very much active for Portugal.
Sinclair converted a seventh-minute penalty at H-E-B Park in Texas to give the hosts the lead, drawing her level with Wambach's tally (which was achieved in 255 matches).
The forward's second goal arrived in the 23rd minute, with Sinclair calmly controlling Adriana Leon's pull back, before slotting the ball into the bottom corner to make history.
Sinclair, who plays her club football with Burnaby, has enjoyed huge success over her 20-year international career.
Incredibly, she has scored double figures in a calendar year on nine occasions for Canada.
Having become Canada's youngest ever female international at the age of 16, Sinclair has gone on to captain her country at five World Cups, a feat matched only by former Mexico and Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez.
Sinclair has also found the net at five different World Cups, scoring 10 goals in total, with Brazilian icon Marta the only other woman to score at five different editions of the tournament.
The veteran striker also scored a record six goals at the 2012 Olympics, helping Canada to a third-place finish in London.
Before Christmas, she was named as Canadian soccer's player of the decade.
