Football | Time for Liverpool to make most of its base

Ahead of this weekend's crucial Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is in positive form has he welcomes his players back from international duty.

Speaking on the clubs official website, the German has spoken of the capacity his side have to fulfill their potential having created a base from which they have only suffered one defeat so far this season.

Liverpool's Achilles heel domestically has been their propensity to draw matches - 7 draws this season, as opposed to 2 for Manchester City.

Feverish victories over the likes of Liverpool and Burnley recently, have been mixed with underwhelming draws with the likes of West Ham, Manchester United and Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Focused now on the final run-in, Klopp is aware of the need to make good on the solid foundations he and his side have built in their title challenge.

"That’s what we were always talking about – a season is like that, you constantly prepare a basis for the final weeks. We are now in the final weeks and there will be no interruption anymore, there will only be game after game after game and they all are very, very important.

"On the one side, opponents fight for the Champions League spots, and on the other they will fight {to stay in} the league.

"I think only Wolves in the last match, they are not fighting for Champions League and not fighting for staying in the league, but we all see what shape they are in – and they can go to the FA Cup final, so that’s exciting for them. But these are our opponents.

"Champions League, we don’t have to talk about that because they are all finals, each game is a final. Hopefully we can stay in that competition for a while.

"We created a wonderful base, now let’s use it."
