Football | West Ham sack Manuel Pellegrini

West Ham United can confirm that Manuel Pellegrini has left the Club with immediate effect. — West Ham United (@WestHam) December 28, 2019 A West Ham statement read: "Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold, along with the board and everyone at West Ham United, would like to place on record their thanks to Manuel for his service over the past 18 months." "It is with great disappointment that we've had to make this decision," said joint-chairman David Sullivan. "It has become clear that a change is required to get the club back on track in line with our ambitions this season. "We felt it was necessary to act now in order to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal." Former Premier League winning manager Pellegrini eventually guided the Hammers to 10th in the league last season after a worrying start to the campaign, and there was considerable excitement at the club following the acquisition of Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals ahead of this year's campaign. However, the Chilean has now paid the price for West Ham's alarming drop in form. Next up for the Hammers is a home clash against struggling Bournemouth on New Year's Day.
