League of Ireland | An eventful week for UCD
It's been an eventful week for UCD.
With four of the Premier Division teams on European duty, the Students had a chance to claw their way up the league table.
UCD drew 0-0 with Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium last Friday night, fielding a team with an average age of just 20.37.
They followed up that draw with a 1-0 win over Bohemian FC on home soil on Monday.
Yoyo Mahdy scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute with a superb strike from 20 yards to inflict a shock defeat on the Gypsies.
Celebrations from goalkeeper Conor Kearns then sparked heated scenes at full time.
The drama, however, has taken another twist today.
Bohs have now been punished for playing the ineligible Danny Mandroiu, who was meant to sit out the game due to suspension, meaning UCD have now been awarded a 3-0 win.
The decision was taken by theĀ FAI Disciplinary Committee, who have also imposed a fine on Bohs.
UCD are still facing a battle to beat the drop, but will take confidence from the four points acquired in the last seven days.
Collie O'Neill's team have now kept three clean sheets in a row, an impressive achievement for a team who lost several key players in the mid-season break.
UCD are three points clear of bottom-placed Finn Harps, having played a game less than the Donegal club.
However, they remain seven points off Waterford (who have two games in hand) and nine off Cork City.
Next up for the Students is a trip to Tallaght to face Shamrock Rovers on Sunday.
