St. Mirren begin their new campaign with a trip to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership tomorrow, and will do so in the knowledge they have a new Irish centre-back on their books until January.
Sean McLoughlin, the former Cork City player, will link up with Jim Goodwin’s side who will be looking to improve on last season’s 11th placed finish.
The defender recently signed for Hull City, when he became the fifth summer signing for Grant McCann, penning a three-year-deal. His move to Scotland is with a view to seeing him secure first-team game time.

In what’s been something of a whirlwind of a week for the player, McLoughlin told the St. Mirren website of his enthusiasm for the move.
“It came about a couple of days ago and I’m really excited to get up here.
“I’ve still got a lot to learn but I’m looking forward to the challenge and looking forward to bettering myself and helping the team.
“I know the Scottish league is a tough, challenging league.”
It's believed a starting berth for tomorrow's game for McLoughlin beckons, under the tutelage of Goodwin, the Waterford-born former Celtic player who made one appearance for the Irish senior team in 2002 against Finland.
