Everton have eliminated Spurs from the FA Cup after a nine-goal thriller at Goodison Park.

The Toffees prevailed 5-4 after extra time in a pulsating cup clash on Merseyside, with Bernard eventually firing home the winning goal.

Spurs had taken an early lead through Davinson Sanchez's third-minute header, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin's 36th-minute half-volley was too hot for Hugo Lloris to handle.

Two minutes later, Richarlison gave Carlo Ancelotti's hosts the lead with a well-hit low strike from 20 yards, before Gylfi Sigurdsson made it 3-1 from the penalty spot against his old club.

Erik Lamela calmly lifted the ball over Robin Olsen in the 43rd minute to halve the deficit before the interval, capping off a frenetic opening 45 minutes at Goodison.

Sanchez drew Jose Mourinho's visitors level in the 57th minute, prodding home Toby Alderweireld's flick on from a corner to net his second goal of the night.

Richarlison completed his brace in the 68th minute, smashing a powerful strike past Lloris from an acute angle after being slipped through in the Spurs box.

Spurs drew level yet again seven minutes from time, with substitute Harry Kane meeting Heung-min Son's teasing cross with a diving header at the back post.

The scoreline was tied at 4-4 at the end of normal time, but it was Everton who grabbed the game's ninth and final goal in the first half of extra time.

Sigurdsson dinked a delightful ball over the Spurs defence, and Bernard kept his cool to rifle a half-volley past the out-of-sorts Lloris.

Elsewhere in the cup, Manchester City defeated Swansea 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus plundered the goals for Pep Guardiola's visitors, with Morgan Whittaker scoring a consolation goal for the Welsh club.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal of the game as Leicester City beat Brighton 1-0 at the King Power Stadium, while Billy Sharp's penalty handed Sheffield United a 1-0 victory over 10-man Bristol City at Bramall Lane.
