GAA | Paul Galvin confirmed as new Wexford manager

Paul Galvin has been officially confirmed as Wexford’s new football manager on a two-year-deal.

Following his nomination last month, he was ratified by the Wexford county board last night in an agreement that will see him take over the county until 2020.

The former All-Ireland winner will bring with him a backroom panel that includes Mattie Forde, Eamon Sayers, Tadhg O’Donoghue and Shane Roche.

Wexford finished Divison 4 of the league in 5th place last season and their time in the championship was a short-lived one with defeats to Louth and Derry.

The former footballer of the year will have a difficult task on his hands, as the county side look to come out of the shadow of the county’s hurling team who reached the All Ireland semi-final under the tutelage of Davy Fitzgerald.

It is his first foray into management at inter-county level.

The 39-year-old won three All-Irelands with Kerry and three All-Stars as well as being named footballer of the year in 2009.
